ONE Festival and CINEsound will kick off with a midnight screening of a rare 35mm print of Andrzej Zulawski’s Possession. Sam Neill stars in this legendary occult-horror-thriller about a jilted man trying to solve the mystery of his wife’s sudden strange behavior. The film will be preceded by a live overture — Hannah Hartman’s “Message from the Lighthouse” — performed by Karre.
Silents in Concert
Saturday, April 13, 3 pm | Ruth Sokolof
Families are especially encouraged to join us for this artfully curated medley of experimental short films paired with live performances by members of the International Contemporary Ensemble. Selections include Albert Lamorisse’s all-time classic The Red Balloon (also showing in April through Film Streams’ Forever Young Family & Children’s Series), a trio of stop-motion shorts by the internationally renowned Jodie Mack, and a summery film collage by Turkish filmmakers Merve Kayan and Zeynep Dadak.
Sights on Sounds
Sunday, April 14, 7 pm | Ruth Sokolof
CINEsound will conclude with “Sound Inventors,” a hosted presentation of short documentaries on the lives and work of post-WWII composers working to redefine sound. Karre will provide commentary as he leads the audience through a program that, among other subjects, will touch on some of the artists involved in ONE Festival.
