Last fall, Opera Omaha and Nebraska Writers Collective invited students from Nebraska and Iowa were invited to submit works of poetry on themes of creativity and community. From the pool of poetry submissions, composer alumni from the Luna Composition Lab selected 8 pieces to set to music, based on what inspired them.

The hour-long concert features the original compositions by composers Katie Palka and Aliya Salmanova with words by poets Emilee Burck, Zachary Evans, Audrenna Hicks, Shelby Jochem, Nathaniel Kielian, Aislinn Miller, and Chloe Urugutia performed by Opera Omaha’s Holland Community Opera Fellows as vocalists and pianist Mark Kurtz.

Opera Omaha’s Poetry & Music Project is produced in partnership with Nebraska Writers Collective and Luna Composition Lab.
This program is funded in part by Humanities Nebraska and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment
